Gallery: Golden Oldies

I found these golden oldies in the archives:

James Hook and his dad, paramedic Richard Hook, pose for a campaign photo shoot.

James was the face of our Golden Hour challenge in 2007 (before my time at WAA), which saw hundreds of people, schools and businesses organise their own fundraising events around the themes of ‘gold’ and ‘time.’

The Golden Hour is an important term you’ll see bouncing around the air ambulance industry a lot, referring to the first 60 minutes after trauma. Getting to the right hospital unit within the Golden Hour massively increases your chances of survival and a good recovery – which is where air ambulances can make that lifesaving difference.

The helicopter you see is WAA’s very first aircraft: a Bolkow-105, which is no longer with us. It served us well, but looking back at this model the photos feel more like decades ago, not just a few years. It’s amazing how far we’ve actually come with technological advancements, and it’s all thanks to donations.
